Before Reinstalling WinXP, How to save my important files?

Windows is not openning ... Just black screen appears! I have recovery cd and WinXP cd but i dont wanna lose my data/files in my computer. Is there any way i can get to my files and save them before reinstalling or using my recovery cd?

you can do a repair installation. if you have a WINDOWS XP cd. OEM restore Cd will wipe your drive. so if you have a windows CD pop it in when you get to this screen
Press R to repair.

WARNING DO NOT USE THE SYSTEM RESTORE CD FOR THIS PROCESS. IT WILL WIPE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR HARD DRIVE

Use the XP repair install instructions here:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
If that doesn't work, you'll need to remove the drive and copy your files to another machine.
This adapter makes it easy:
