Maxtor OneTouch 4

I’ve got a big problem and I hope someone can help me.

Several months ago I bought the Maxtor OneTouch 4 500gb.
On the harddisk where some drivers I’ve installed. But yesterday, the
harddisk won’t work anymore.

I mean that when I plug the USB-cable in my PC, the PC does recognize the
harddisk but when I open the folder, the whole disk is empty!!!!
When I right click on the G: drive, it says that 295GB on the disk.
I can’t copy files to the drive (well I can, but nothing appears in the empty folder)
And I can’t search in Windows for files that should be on the disk because
Windows just won’t find them.

What happened to my files and can someone PLEASE help me?

power off the pc, connect the drive then power up the pc if it's not recognized, try a different usb slot. and ensure the usb is ebabled in the BIOS
