On my windows live mail email client, i can receive messages, but get this error (in the snip below) when i send an email. i can send fine with mozillla thunderbird.

yep, and when i use thunderbird, i can send and recieve emails fine. when i use gmail.com, everything works fine. when i use live mail (which looks infinitely better than mozilla thunderbird), i can't send emails. m$ sux

Looks like you need to switch to ssl on your smtp server (port 465)
