Projects : Centralized Server with Automated Backup (Servers & Workstations)

Total no. of Servers : 5.

Configuration : P-III Xeon, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, 12/24 DAT Drive
No. of nodes : 450(300 - Powai site & 150 - Thane site)
Purpose : To administer all the servers with single server using CITIX. Scheduled backup of
servers as well as of the desktops that get connected to servers.(LAN/Dial up) using HP's
Auto Backup.
Earlier scenario. : Five different servers connected by Cat 5 cabling with FOC as a backbone. Leased line
for Internet/Mailing backed up by ISDN backed up by Dial up.
Current scenario : Same set up with addition of IBM Netfinity M20 7550 Server with P-III Xeon (Dual
Processor), 1 GB RAM, 40 GB * 5 Hot Swap HDD, 12/24 DAT Drive, with CITRIX
loaded. Using IBM’s NetVista Thin clients. HP's AutoBack up connected to Network
Terminal for Scheduled Backup and Disaster Recovery CD-ROM for each server and for
Selected workstations. Installed System Management Server for Network Monitoring.

Projects: Broadband Connectivity for each Apartment in Township.

This project was started to give Broadband connectivity to all our township members in accordance with BSES Telecom Ltd.(BTL), BTL layed Fibre Optic Cable around our complex. BTL gave us Fibre pulled from Sub Station till Basement of each Bldg. from where, Hiranandani Software and Systems Pte. Ltd. (HSSPL), did a structured cabling using FMS, Feeder Switches, Converters, Transceivers and D-Link cabling with all remaining active/passive components. Total no. of bldgs. Which were connected are 60. As a Technical Development Manager, I played role of Project Management - Technical, which consisted of Vendors selections, Components selection, Network diagrams selection/finalization, monitoring of inventory, SLA's from Vendors and BTL and execution monitoring.


Projects: Setting up of a Wireless Internet Connectivity.

For our software development team, we signed up with Easynet Global to give us Leased line connectivity. Easynet Global after doing survey suggested us to set up a Monitor with Dish Antenna, which catches signals from Easynet Global's Dish Antenna, which gives uninterrupted, leased line connectivity (2MB Bandwidth). As a Technical Development Manager, I played role of Project Management. Surveying the exact location, necessary permissions from authorities within Townships, Monitoring of installation work for antenna. Testing and positioning the antenna. Checking the Bandwidth at receiving end, FOC laying from Antenna to our location and to the router. Network connectivity with this line and monitoring the performance and gradually allocating the bandwidth with Software development team.


Current project : IT related infra structure set up for up coming Technology Park.

This project consist of setting up all the latest Information Technologies to be set up for up coming Technology Park within Township for reputed IT companies. As a part of this I am involved in studying International Technology Parks for IT related services. Making project reports with help of Vice President -IT. Sourcing new technologies, testing and making cost beneficial analysis, selecting vendors, site visits and execution of the dedicated work.

Projects : Wireless Broadband Internet Connectivity for THE TAJ MAHAL HOTEL (Mumbai) and Taj Lands End (Mumbai)

This project was started to give Wireless Broadband Internet connectivity to each and every room in the Hotel. Basic Technology evaluation, Vendor Selection, Product evaluation and testing, Demonstration etc.. Microsense Communications Pvt. Ltd implemented the project. And Tulip Software Ltd. THE TAJ MAHAL LTD. did a structured cabling using Routers Cisco, RAS Server and 3COM 10/100 switch. Total no. of saleable rooms are 582 with 14 Banquets. As a Sr. Information Systems Manager, I played role of Project Management - Technical, which consisted of Vendors selections, Components selection, Network diagrams selection/finalization, monitoring of inventory, SLA' s from Vendors and Tulip Software Ltd. and execution monitoring.

Hardware Backup : Tandberg DLT VS640 Autoloader.
Software used : Netvault DBDR Version 6.2
No. of nodes : 260 (Bandra site), 145 (Cuffe Parade Site).
Purpose : To take backup of the servers at any time (Online & open file).
Scheduled backup of 8 DLTs for each day of week and remaining for Daily full backup to be shifted to offsite. In case of any diaster , just by inserting the DR CD in the server and typing the IP address, entire Server, NDS, Applications are restored in just 1 hour.
Earlier scenario. Eight different servers connected by Cat 5 cabling with FOC as a backbone. One PC was used to transfer the Data from each server to the DAT Drive.
Current scenario : Same set up with addition of IBM Netfinity X345 Server with P-IV Xeon (Dual
Processor), 1 GB RAM, 36 GB * 5 Hot Swap HDD, DVD Combo drive, with Novell Netware 5.1 Loaded on to it, is also added to this senario, so that all servers are backup automatically. Every Friday Data from back DLTs are restored and checked for Data Integrity. A policy is made where by any server which comes to Taj Lands End – Bandra, is configured and loaded with DR recovery client. Disaster Recovery CD-ROM for each server are kept at safe place in Office away from the hotel (with compound and one set at offsite location).


Projects : Fiber Optic Network

Make : Dlink Fiber switches Layer 3,Layer 2 and Dlink 1024R+
Hardware : Dlink Networking components, Avaya 6 pair Fiber cable..
No. of nodes : 260 (Bandra site)
Purpose : To Work on the Novell Netware based applications with good speed.
Earlier scenario. Cat5 cable from main location to all the location was pulled with no signal booster anywhere and cascading was done in bad manner. 10 MB Hub cascading with 10/100 switches. Any one needing additional point, was pulled from the nearest switch/hub and connecting it again to the Switch/Hub and not in the enclosed manner. Thus Network was too slow and users where very unhappy.
Current scenario : Network plan was drawn , approved by Corp. Network Management team. Vendors were evaluated and selected with signing of SLAS. Implementation was also called, Interviewed and selected. SLAS were sign for timely completion of the Job and Support thereafter. Procurement was watched very carefully and same the implementation. VLANS were created and core switch were monitored closely for any packets clogging the network. Now applications are working fine.
