problem with downloading textpad and compiler

Posting Whiz in Training
Kind of an odd question...I need to get textpad and all semester I have not needed it because I just use the one at our campus computer lab but it is closed today so this is what I did...I downloaded the latest text pad and then went to java.sun.com to get the compiler for it and under the java manager thing it said it downloaded correctly but it still does not show the compiler under tools in text pad...I am on a windows xp platform...can someone tell me if I am missing a step or did something wrong.... Java SE Development Kit 6 Update 5 is what I downloaded...also went into the bottom right of my tool bar and it said installed fine...would i restart make it work?
