Ok check this out I've installed Windows XP on a new hard drive, now each time the computer starts there is no "Welcome" screen instead i get this box with my username and password it gets so annoying. It appears as if its a Windows 98SE username & password box. Then I did a msconfig and noticed that the Boot.ini file is missing, So finally I tried to insert the Windows XP CD and try to repair the problem but nothing. Please help!

Using your XP cd just accept the Repair option with Recovery Console; when in there the command you want is...
bootconfig
This will search for all OSes and list them for you... you select the default and it will then build a boot.ini file for you.
Deep, deep in the woods, but walking about.
