Many big stores have it to catch shoplifters, but instead of reprogramming the tag they simply cut it off.
There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

All generalizations are wrong. Even this one.

And if they don't take them off, put them in the microwave for a pretty, and brief, lightshow.

i am studying applied computing at uni next year so yeah, i am to be in the industry

coding skills?

but yeah, my main intrest is like you said "hardware (setup, performance, issues)" , linux, general troubleshooting, tweaking etc....

anyway, back to the topic in hand

good final projects

EpoS system (stock control + sales + possibly payroll (comission?) + customer management + link to website + lots of oppertumity for fun h/w setups . This is a challenging one though. Team project possibly, but probably not the sort of thing you could make + properley document/test on your own unlesss you worked full time on it for quite a while

Something new and upcoming. My friend did this thing at uni for his masters, where he looked at using eye movements for navigating menus for disabled people. (Basically applytng the same principles the targeting system on the apache gunship helicopter uses). Could take a while. Rather complicated.

i am majoring in Software. this is actually a group project and my group mates are majoring in Networking. we need to incorporate the two. but we are also allowed to make a project that deals with hardware design and implementation since this would also include software programming.
perhaps some sort of thin client system?
network bootable, with a custom frontend. Terminals for an internet cafe maybe? (links slightly with the epos system i reccomended)
If i am helpful, please give me reputation points.
