boot problems

when my win 2000 boots it goes to the blue screen of death.
it says this:
"*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000003,0x00000006,0x0000000,0xBFF72364)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*** Address BFF72364 base at BFF6E000, DateStamp 3cb4d2c0 - IdeChnDr.sys
if this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any windows 2000 updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as Caching or shadowing.
check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and
terminated. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components,
restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up options,
and then select Safe mode.
refer to your getting started manual for more information on
troubleshooting stop errors."
I uninstalled some stuff and rebooted and same thing.
I reformatted the drive and everything was fine, until I rebooted and it did
it again.

I have had a similar problem with XP Pro.
It seems to have something to do with the Intel idechndr.sys driver for the 845MP/MZ chipset.
I installed this to overcome the problem of XP not using the correct drivers for the IDE bus but it seems to have problems.
My laptop boots OK but crashes whenever I use chkdsk or Nortons Disk Doctor ...
To overcome this, I rolled back the driver to the windows original and everything seems to run fine ... just slower ...
Probably doesn't help but may give a clue as to the problem.
Cheers,
C

And...yes! the program revealed two bad sectors which could not be found by chkdisk and solved my problem. Now the BSOD doesn't appear anymore and I can do my work as before!
So, if you meet the same problem as I did, use diagnostics of your HDD, sector by sector to make sure it works fine.
Bye
