How is your experience with java handling databases?

actually i am going to build a library database application; but don't have any idea of handling database with the java!!!
and is it possible if you create database table in ms access and connect it through java?
one more thing:
OS MSwin XP sp2
netbean
MS access 2007
so what else i need like JDBC Driver and MYSQL is must...?

My preference is MySQL, MS Access is no good in my opinion

actually you could connect java with any type of databases if you have the correct driver to connect to that database search the google for java driver for ms access and you could read any tutorial on JDBC to know to how to connect your driver with database and how to wirte queris
