Is blue the only color that was available to you? It is much too boring with just one color. You need to jazz it up just a little. I can see it is for the technical people , but they also do have some esthetic feelings.

you can improve better your design ,

just make your subforum logos like your main logo but in some different colors ,, as active subforums, inactive etc...

I've got to be honest here. It looks just like so many other forum sites out there. No personality.
