Browser problems - cannot access microsoft.com etc!

Hey guys, I was referred here by a few friends who have had problems in the past and needed help with solutions

Anyway, this is quite a frustrating problem of sorts. I can't access sites such as Microsoft.com. This is through both Mozilla and IE. I have mucked around with re-registering DLL files and what no to avail. Even in your sticky thread, I couldn't download the "AVG Anti-Spyware" because the site wouldn't load either. Haha quite a pain in the ass isn't it

Cheers for any help at all with this at all

Please go here & install ALL critical updates required for your system, including service pack 1a for both XP and IE6.
Most malware is designed to attack unpatched XP systems - exploiting the available 'holes' - and can bypass third-party protection on an unpatched system. The most that can be done with an unpatched system is put a temporary bandage on it. Your system can potentially be reinfected within minutes of cleaning it.

  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Damn, computer works a lot smoother now, especially general browsing, but it still won't access microsoft.com and sites such as that. One thing it does come up with when trying to load it though is

"DNS Error - Server cannot be found"

I'm presuming DNS is something to do with my router? I don't think I can access my router because I have done so before and my ISP provider has put a password and login to access the settings. Therefore I might have to give them a cal;.

Try the following in the order given, trying to connect after each; (you may need to reboot)

Download the HostsXpert.
Run it and press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.
Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it. You can edit the host file with this program too.

Download and run Winsockfix from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/N...nSockFix.shtml

Download Dial-a-Fix and run it. Select the 'Check all' (green arrow) and then hit 'GO.'
Reboot when done and see how things are now.
