Beginner to Coding of Any Shape/Form

Hi, I'm looking for some assistance to begin coding in Java, and I don't really know where to begin. I'm still attending school, and will be taking Java as an elective, but I still want to try to get a head-start, because I am very proficient in math, love (and am exceptionally good with) computers, and I just basically like to get down to the bits and pieces of things and wrap my brain around them. Basically, I'd like to know where I can find any guides and downloadable programs (links = preferred, free if possible ;-]) that can direct me how to start. So, just to clarify, I'm not looking to get into specific fields of coding or anything, I just want to start chewing on the nuts and bolts. Thanks so much!

Best Wishes, CCVM.
