Boot freeze on compaq screen

I,m associted with best buy,im aka best buy bob.
looking for a second and third possible opinion
in regards to troubleshooting a compaq sr1650nx desktop.
issue is when system bootsup to the compaq screen,the pc freezes
at that point,no keyboard control,i believe the hard drive is the problem,
any opinions

by putting the HD in another machine(slave) you can determine if its working,chkdsk and if it has an OS on.
