Vista laptop X 2, ethernet crossover network?

Goal: share internet connection between two laptops running Vista.
Ok, I've got the nuts and bolts. Lots of ports, crossover cable, verizon wireless modem installed on both. (one modem, software on both) Working on setting up the network but there doesn't seem to be much precise info on this configuration. Shouldn't be this hard, dang it. A little help please?
