Maintaing filter criteria in main page

hi...
Its urgent please help

in main page i'm filtering the records. filtered records are displayed in the grid which contains a hypelink to other page. when i navigate to other page and come back to main page i need to maintain the filtered criteria on the main page.

please can any one help me.

pass the filter parameter as query string, so it will be like this :
main.aspx?criteria=foo.. when you move back and forth the browser will keep the query string and the page will be able to filter the records when loaded.
