Toshiba A75 Problems

I have 2 Toshiba A75 notebooks and they both have issues. One was onboard memory problems that I think I may have licked, but the other machine has a very strange problem. When I push the "on" button for the other machine, the fans start running, but the blue power light in the on button does not come on, nor does the hard drive spin up. There is also no POST. If I re-push the button to shut the machine off, it does not respond and I have to pull the battery for it to stop. If I plug in just the power adapter without the battery, the fans come on right away without the "on" switch being pushed and still nothing happens.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
