Windows Explorer Display Flashes when Mobile Device Logo Visible

My XP System has an annoying fault that causes the display of files and folders in the Explorer frame to flash.
This only happens when the mobile device logo is visible in the frame - adjust the frame so that the mobile device is not visible and the flashing stops - move it back into view and it starts again.
I have no idea when or why this started.
Any ideas please.
