Trying to set up mirror service for web site.

Hi, I've created a web site that I am having mirrored on several servers. I would like to have one main page that users go to that then connects them to the fastest mirror. So, what I (think I) need to do is have a database or list of all the mirrors, and then get a php script which checks them all, sees which is fastest at that time, and diverts user to that. Does anyone know how I would go about doing that? Or an alternte method producing simalar results. I'd be extremley grateful for any help.
Thanks

Matt
