My hp pavilion laptop screen is getting lines on it, passerbys say I am losing my screen and should just plug in a new monitor, our office has a spare Dell monitor that plugs in but my old screen still displays on the laptop. How can I change the screen to the Dell,,,,is the Dell compatible with my HP?

Most likely, yes. Hit the 'FN' key and the 'F' key with the monitor printed on it. If the spare monitor does not wake up, after 5 seconds or so, then do it again. This will cycle the video card between the onboard LCD and the exterior monitor connection.
God bless Freeware, Freespire, and all open source techies
