HD Card compatability with vga monitor

I have a Generic 17inch VGA monitor and was wondering if it is possible for me to use an HD GFX card with it.
Im betting that i cannot use HD/directx10 with it, but am wondering if the VGA out that the card has will work with my cheap monitor??
by the way: My monitor is actually a "anlog" one. verry cheap. Thanks.
