The computer is running much better now! Although sometimes it still starts up slow, the occurence has gotten less. About the Norton, I still haven't found the CD but I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks so much for all your help Judy! I really appreciate it! 
My friend installed this program. She's the one who owns this laptop, we traded since she didn't want to lug around a Vaio while doing fieldwork. She got my Eee instead. While her Vaio was with me, I got it infected thus my joining this site and seeking for help. I was able to install the Norton already and the computer is running much better! Thanks so much Judy!
