hi, think I put this in wrong section so I am reposting here just in case =/ I didn't notice this section til afterwards.
I have recently started having a lot of problems with my computer.
I guess if I make a list it would be easiest =/
1. When I search something in google, it works alright in firefox, but if I click on any link it doesn't take me to the site, and the search is extremely slow. (in fact, my internet in general is much slower.) when I click on a link, it says "redirect" and goes to some weird websites, like one called moxiesearch.com and another called bediddle.com (other rubbishy search engines)
2. I have started getting a lot of popups.
3. Hotmail doesn't work; I can log in, but when I click go to inbox absolutely nothing happens.
4. I have tried to restore windows from an earlier point, but no matter what date I try fails...
5. A lot of websites display in a really weird way, when two weeks ago they were fine.. The text gets all crammed up into two lines so is completely illegible, and java applications don't work through the internet.
Thats all I can think of, apart from the computer runes a bit slower than usual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for taking the time to read this

Hi conormacklin and welcome to daniweb.
From the way things sound you posted in exactly the right place. You need to follow some steps and run some programs to help us see exactly what is going on with the computer.
Go HERE
Download and run the ATF-Cleaner to clean up unnecessary temps and such.
Then do a full system scan with your Antivirus program and allow it to fix everything found.
Then download, install and update Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware. Then follow the directions on running it given in the link by PhilliePhan. Save the log for posting here.
Run the ESET Online scanner if you can using the directions given by PP. Save that log too. If you cannot run it yet, don't worry, we can get to that later if needed.
Finally download and run HiJackThis Do a full system scan and save the log.
Post back here with all the requested logs and we can take a look.

Sorry forgot to say, I have tried downloading all those programs that there are in the stickies (eg hijackthis) but when i click the links is says "page load error". I think this may be related to my problem
See if you can run your antivirus program in Safe Mode first. Then see if you can get the HiJackThis I posted and run it.

shoot
another small problem
When I start up my computer, a program opens to be able to connect to the internet (orange) and this isn't working in safe mode, meaning that I can't egt to the links to download hijackthis.
Iwill try downloading it on another computer and bringing it over, so I will post the log as soon as I can.

When I start up my computer, a program opens to be able to connect to the internet (orange) and this isn't working in safe mode,
Are you on dial-up or high speed?

If you are on highspeed then why are you not connected all the time? You should be, I know I am. You should just be able to open a browser and be online or else we are talking about a different kind of high speed.
I notice you have a program running in the background called NetWaiting. If you are on highspeed, why do you need this program running? This is a program provides a mechanism to suspend a dialup internet connection on the modem line while the user uses the line for a voice communication.
