Annoying Viruses Have Disabled XP Start Menu and takin over! Help Much Appreciated!

#1 Sep 16th, 2008
Hi, Im trying to fix another one of my computers. It seems before i could get a virus program, some viruses hit the system real hard. So far ive done an XP repair install (NOT Fresh Install), but ive still got viruses. I cannot access the "All Programs", "Control Panel", or the "Run Command" from the Start Menu, they have been disabled.
The Virus has planted an annoying desktop background prompting me to download a virus program. Whenever i open my Internet browser, some so called virus sites take over and wont allow me to surf to any other site.
Much help would be appreciated I will try to Post the HJT LOGS onto here and mabe you could assist me.
Anyone willing to help just post back so i could know to Post my LOGS.

Once you have placed the checkmarks then click the Fix Checked Button.
Exit HJT
Reboot.
I want to stress here...removing the above entries is NOT removing the infection we are hopefully going to stop it from running so it can be removed.
Now do the following;
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.
* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.
Reboot the machine.
Post back here with that log.
Try this first;
Run HJT again and put checkmarks next to the following;

Ok , It seems the Infections have been removed succesfully. But there seems to be instability in Small Areas. First, My Desktop Background picture is not Showing Completely...and Second...The Internet Browser Opens, Except when I put in an Address, It Opens another Browser app and both are Blank, In other words...It doesnt read the Address i put in and stays on the default Blank page, and Opens a Second Iexplorer.exe thats blank. I am using High Speed Internet that is always on and connected to two computers.
If anything else comes up, ill update it here. Thanks

I am thinking that the remaining problems probably stem from the attempt to repair the system while it was infected. A system repair is not going to remove a virus or a trojan, a full reformat probably would but that is a very drastic step to take instead of just removing the virus and one I would only recommend as a very last resort.
Can you get online and use a browser at all with this computer?

Sorry for my late reply, but it seems when i got all the latest updates from Microsoft, it fixed both the wallpaper problem and the internet problem. Both are now working great and i actually have a Virus Program running that will eliminate anything that comes its way, lol.
Appreciate the helpful info!
