Outlook 2007 contacts wont link to Address book

I am running Microsoft Outlook 2007 on a 64bit thinkpad with vista. I cant get my contacts to show up in my address book. I have tried all the normal process suggestions to do the link that Microsoft discusses but all areas are grayed out and un accessible. any recommendations???
