ActiveMovie Window: explorer.exe - Application Error

I get an error everytime I open my folder I keep videos in. I tried looking up how to fix the problem on google and microsoft, and all I could find was something saying to manually delete some files and reinstall active movie. After doing this, the error still occurred. I've included a screenshot of the window that pops-up to notify me of the error. If anyone can shed some light on what this means or can tell me how to fix it I would be most appreciative. Thanks.

I managed to fix my error in a way, but only because i formatted my computer. I was having other problems as well, mostly from something called cygwin which I'm not very familiar with. Ever since I formatted I haven't had the activemovie problem. If it bugs you a lot i say just format.

I know that ultimate solution but I want to avoid it now. I will keep searching to find out more technical details about that problem.

i encountered the same problem running XP SP2 plus windows media player 10 and k-lite codec 2.52. i uninstalled win media player 10 and reinstalled 9 but the problem still occurred. then uninstalled k-lite codec and reinstalled win media player 9 again. finally the problem was over. now, i will try to install media player 10 again no k-lite installation hoping that the error message will not appear. i'll post new message soon.

i installed win media player 10 and that activemovie error did NOT occur so the problem is somewhere in the k-lite codec - it could be linked with windows media player classic that can be installed by k-lite codec - i'll check that

the problem is not in the media player classic. i installed separately installed vobsub, divx and xvid then the problem occurred again. afterwards, uninstalled divx, no luck the problem is still there. then uninstalled xvid and the activemovie error disappeared. finally installed divx 6.0.2 and i have not encountered that annoying problem. now, i'll install k-lite but will clear the x-vid from k-lite's installation

ps: the xvid codec is from December 2004 ver 1.0.3. but there is new one XviD 1.1.0 Beta2 - 04042005 but installing the latest version caused the activemovie error message to re-appear and it really pissed me off. get rid of xvid codec as it is the cause for activemovie error

I got the ActiveMovie Window: explorer.exe - Application Error tonight for the first time when opening the folder where I store my movies. For the past few days I had been reinstalling apps which didn't quite survive a motherboard change, but things seemed to be going nicely until the this error popped up. Prior to the error appearing I had reinstalled Itunes + Quicktime. After rebooting this error appeared. So I Googled away and surmised it was probably a codec problem. Once I installed DivX6.01 and rebooted, the error disappeared.

I had the same problem earler today
the problem came about after installing a
'Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec'
(must have been clashing with a previous version)
i solved the problem buy uninstalling any codec appliance id installed such as real altenative quick time alternative, divx, xvid, ac3, ogg, etc
i also searched the registry using the term Fraunhofer to remove all refrences to the offending codec.
The Fraunhofer codec did not have an uninstall function available.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO EXPORT YOUR REGISTRY 1ST IF YOU USE THIS METHOD.

Then installing the latest k-lite full codec pack. using the setting 'lots of things' when installing. now all is good

get the klite codec pack here
