Hello good People
I am new to these forums.Hope you are all well and happy.

I have a problem with windows media player9 after a virus attatched itself to certain files which saw said files going to AVG virus vault as they could not be deleted.
I am now left with media player 2 version 6.4.07.1121 which has no entry in the start menu and there is no file assosiation in the players format tab.It does play but with limitations.
I have downloaded MP9 for Win ME from Microsoft and attempted to reinstall the player to no avail.
The message i get is something like : ' You already have media player 9 and all of its components and a futher update is not neccesary at this time '.

I do not have media player9 although the installation says i have.
I have lived without it and used Creative Media Player instead which is a bit slow to get going at times so i would like to get back Media Player as it is a far better player.
I can usually fix my PC problems after some research but i am stumped at this time.
If anyone has any suggestions to fix this problem i will buy you a beer or two if i see you.

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows Media Player (WMP) 9 beta, there is no option to remove the program in the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
CAUSE

This behavior is by design.
RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method below for your operating system. Method 1: Microsoft Windows XP

Use the System Restore feature in Windows XP to return to a restore point that is before your installation of WMP 9 beta. To do so, follow these steps: 1.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.2.In the System Restore Wizard, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.3.In the first box, click a date on the calendar that is before the date that you installed WMP 9 beta. In the second box, select a restore point, if one is available for that date.

Note Dates that have restore points available appear in bold type.4.Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the system restore process.Method 2: Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and Windows 2000

Thankyou very much for the info Rueful Rogue,I shall look into your suggestions but as i recall i tried to create restore points when i last did a fresh install of Win ME some time back and the restore facility did not want to play ball for some reason so i may be out of luck on that one.
I deleted MP9 from the registry several times but it came back each time i ran regedit.

I shall have a browse of the relavant sites as you suggested.
