Leg pain..long hours

Hi all, new to this forum. Been a programmer since 1998..now 30 and starting to get some shooting pains in my legs. Doc said just to stretch and take breaks, but my question is more about what sitting positions/chair types/feet up etc.. has helped any of you with leg pain.

Surprisingly, I don't have any back pain, but I know that poor posture while sitting can cause leg pain as well. Like many of you I am married to my profession and hate to think of switching professions.

Any suggestions, thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

Painfully geeky

Do a google search on "proper sitting" and you'll find a wealth of advice. Primarily chair height, seat angle, support for feet are the big concerns.

If your doc is not concerned over "shooting pains" I'd get another doc! These could be symptoms of something serious.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I should also cut down on my hours. I don't think it matters how well positioned I am if I'm at my desk for 14+ hours a day

Also try those large blue balls (heh, heh I said blueballs) - they are really good for your core strength and will change your posture. Just keep one around (if you have the room) and use it once or twice a day.

I agree.

Also yoga (yes, I know...) helped me a lot in the past.

Well, you could also try Tai Chi and/or qigong.

They even make these "blue balls" with holders...I have one, and they work quite well with posture techniques. I look at it like this, you only have one body, take good care of it!!

Most complain about back pains and neck pains. Maybe you have to stretch every now and then to keep the blood circulating. Better still you need to consult it with a medical professional as it may be something serious.
