I went to http://www.daniweb.com/code

and only found a handful of code snippets. But now I know there are a lot more than that!!

I took the general URL and just hacked in some other numbers like ...115.html, or ...125 html and got a lot of snippets NOT listed!

So is there a "legal" way to see all the snippets?
Those on the main page ( code/ ) are only a tiny bit of the actual amount of snippets. I did not find anything to navigate either ("See all snippets", or "Next" or whatever).

I'm on Firefox, FWIW.

Basically you can see *all* snippets within a particular language (i.e. www.daniweb.com/code/php.html) but not all snippets overall. Adding page navigation is on my list of things to do, I promise.

So you ARE planning to do this? Fantastic, this is a comfort indeed.

Why don't you simply assign the CORRECT sub-page to the appropriate forum?

This is the Ansi C Forum.
So "CODE SNIPPETS" on the footer should NOT point to

http://www.daniweb.com/code

(because it will contain a hell of a lot of different languages)

but to

http://www.daniweb.com/code/c.html

Not only until I cranked up the browser window to the max (I'm doomed to use a fairly small monitor atm) I saw that the appropriate "code snippets" link was crammed somewhere under "Related Features. If the forum area was not that uber-wide, I would have been able to spot it.

The actual problem is that most web pages these days are "optimized" for people with 21'' screens and above, because everyone in this world has got plenty of money, hasn't he.

The Related Features item in the sidebar includes a link to the code snippets related to the particular place where you are ... if you're in the C++ forum, it's a link to C++ code snippets ... PHP forum is a link to PHP code snippets, etc.

Secondly, please use the navigation dropdown menu to select "Software Development code snippets" from the software dev dropdown or "Web Development code snippets" from the web dev dropdown. Each of these links will present you with *all* the code snippets for each of those two main categories.

I'm still working on getting the code homepage done to accomidate for languages that aren't associated with an existing DaniWeb forum.

OK, I've tried that. This leads to another, static, useless link:

This page is about the same like:

And as I said, this is one of the most useless pages on here, because it only contains a random selection of code snippets in various languages. For me, this index page is just for the bin.
It's a cul-de-sac: one gets about 15 snippets, no navigation anywhere, and no way to get to the various languages from there -- nada.

In other words:
Currently, code/ (the index page) misses *essential* sub-links to code/c, code/php, and so on. The current way that it is designed, it makes no use for many.
An index page, whose URL appears in ANY footer identically on the whole web site, should not lead to a cul-de-sac (or dead end, whatever you'd prefer).

The ONE AND ONLY reasonable link is the one corresponding to the language I'm programming in in the "Related Features" box on the right.
Whereas the main URL referring to the index page - at least the way it is at the moment - is totally for the bin. IMHO.

I'm confused as to what information is missing from here. There are links to the top software development snippets, links to the most popular software dev syntax languages, and links to all of the software dev languages in the sidebar.

Yes, the sidebar is there, and it's again the same problem: the left area is simply TOO EFFIN WIDE.

The whole design on this page imposes the need of buying at least a wider 20'' or 21'' display to see everything.
Or one needs to scroll right to left, left to right, back and forth.

I guess someone like you with a 3 GHz machine with (nicked from profile info) a whopping 8 GB (!!) of RAM is at least using a 22'' or 24'' display.

I'm on an Athlon XP machine here with a 17'' monitor, so this clearly explains why I have so many problems in navigating the site.
It's a pity that most sites these days follow the "buy a wider monitor or clear off" policy, simply automagically imposed by the DESIGN.

When I started HTMLing back in 1993 with a simple text editor, HTML was not yet forced to be a "replacement DTP" as these days!
The URL in the preceding post is the best example:

Everything just EVERYTHING appears to be at fixed-size.
On my display, when I go less than 80% of my screen size, things are quite static:No auto-resizing, nothing.
Tables designed as if cemented into concrete.

When I code web sites, I STILL size down my personal resolution for testing and debugging purposes every time, since there are enough people in the world who are excellent coders, but who are happy if they can afford a 17'' display. And yes, I respect them by using dynamic sizing whenever possible.

For whenever HTML is used as a sort of stripped-down QuarkExpress, people with smaller displays are usually the losers. As I am ATM.

On the subject of code-snippets:
I would really like a 'preview' button with them just as normal posts have. It's not a big deal, but I would be very grateful

Also: Why can't we attach pics to snippets? If I'm posting a visualc++ snippet for example, it would be nice to show the people what the snippet actually does

I don't know what system you are using, but I have a MacBook Pro 15'' with Vista installed(besides OS X) and I have no problems what so ever to see everything. Could it be you're in desperate need for a bigger screen? Well, it's almost X-mass...
