PHP originally stood for Personal Home Page. It is just a name nowadays..
also known as
Hypertext Preprocessor (HTML-embedded scripting language)

i heard that it was meant to be a joke
php actually meaning "php hypertext proc..."
kinda weird if you ask me.

It is a joke, and yes PHP does mean PHP Hypertext Preprocessor [or Personal Home Page if you are using the older term]. It is similar to GNU, which stands for "GNU, not Unix" or "GNU's not Unix". This type of acronym is called a "recursive acronym".

I doubt this will help, but I thought I would share.
