I would appreciate any assistance on a problem that I have had for a long time.

I am running Win/XP SP2 using IE6. For the most part I don't have any problems accessing most sites both secure and non-secure. My credit card company was recently acquired and switched their website. At first I had no problem accessing their secure site. Then conincidentally at about the time I installed SP2, I started receiving the error message, "Cannot find server or DNS Error" when attempting to simply access their logon screen. I have spent countless hours testing and trying different setting in IE. I have also tested using Netscape 7.2 and also cannot obtain the logon screen.

Support from the credit card company is useless. My internet provider only suggested that there may be an issue with the site certificate which was issued.

Well first off you might as well post a hijackthis log so someone can eliminate the possibility of you having spyware/viruses... Other than that... are you sure you have the right address? e.g. with the www's if it needs them, etc?

I will post the hijackthis log as soon as I figure out how to do it. Regarding the correct address ... the main site has a hyperlink to their logon screen. So, the address must be correct. The address is: https://www.accessmycardonline.com

Also, it takes a "long" time to get the error screen - 30 seconds or so. Thanks again.

Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!


1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

Try running this prog (http://rcc.bgsu.edu/faq/Files/FixSecureWebsites.exe)
and/or try the "winsockfix" in my signature
both are completely harmless(theyre just restoring defaults), but can do a lot of good if something internet related is corrupted

I tried the one of the programs, but it did not help. I am not able to download the winsockfix program. Thank you.

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
You might want to print out or copy & paste to notePad , these instructions as you will need to close this browser window to fix with hijackthis !
