No audio when using a Pinnacle PCTV card and BTTV drivers

Well, I've searched Google to little avail so I've decided to ask here.
I've currently set up a Media Centre PC in my room. Everything - even wireless LAN - works perfectly after several kernel recompilations, that is, excepting my TV card. As you may imagine, this is somewhat of a disappointment considering it is a media centre. I'm using Linux Mandrake 10.1 Community and a 2.6.1-20 kernel.
Let me clarify, when I disable auto mute on the card, I hear a static, noise sound. I recieve a good video signal. The static noise changes slightly when I change channel which leads me to believe that it may be a problem with my TV standard - in the UK, we use PAL-I (instead of NTSC). This is not a problem with muting input channels or anything on my sound card.

Hi, I live in Brazil and have exactly the same problem than you. I have Pinnacle PCTV RETAIL BR
and use the CONECTIVA 10.
My standart, in Brazil, is PAL-M. When I set to NTSC everything works minus the image, it becames black and white, when I set to Pal-M the image stay color and fine but the sound became a static noise.
How your standart is PAL-I you can try put this line in /etc/modprobe.conf
options tuner pal=i

I too have just installed a Pinnacle card. Didn't have sound at first, but realised I didn't have the connection between my card and sound card plugged in. Have you made the connection?

I've never used a Winfast card, but looking at this image (http://www.pcpartscollection.com/leadtvtuncar.html), it appears you have to run a line out from the TV Card (audio out, one of the 3 below the S-Video Jack, maybe it has a symbol like a series of cirles with a line coming out of it and it probably says it in the manual). Anyways, run a line out of the TV card into your motherboards or sound card (depends if you have one or not), but the connection for the audio should appear the same, it will have a series of circles with a line in. A lot of modern mobo's have this plug as a green color.

If I were you, I would switch to windows + Nero showtime.
It is simple and, in general made for watching TV, pics, vids and movies on a TV and not on monitor. Only flaw with showtime is lack of support for sat cards.

I actually ditched my pctv pro card (really sucked under *nix), and bought a pvr-500 dual tuner. Kept the pctv pro remote and serial ir though, and all three work under MythTv (specifically knoppmyth R5C7). A LOT of online documentation and it does everything that Windows does but for FREE (though donations would probably be welcomed by the developers)! Give it a shot, after all if you can't get it to work, you can always install Windows.
