Web Site Review

1. Site Purpose
1. site has a clear and recognizable purpose
2. Purpose is reinforced throughout the site
3. the site does not explain why it is better than other sites on the home page in an easy to see manner
4. purpose of the site IS extremely obvious

2. Finding the site

1. URL
* URL is logical
* Web site name and url are easy to remember and to not mistype

* url does not contain any dashes or underscores
* site is not uniques which means that many other people have the same kind of site and as such it might not be easy for a new person to find it.

2. Search Engines & Search Engine Placement
* Site has not been subbmitted to dmoz.org which it should be

* url primary page does not use any performance media (like flash) and does not require a special viewer

* site does not use frames, but uses tables, which are better but still hinder search engine progress on the page, the layout of the tables helps to alleviate this problem though and shouldnt need to be changed

* this site does rank high for webinfostats searches and also web info stats, but this site places fairly low on other keywords (find stats on webpages) for example

* Site does not list well under the following, TRIED keywords

* Site contains some metatag keywords but should contain more, including often mistyped words and their misspellings, as long as singular and plural words etc

* Some of the keywords are higher on the page, BUT they are not at the top, the keywords should be as high as possible, which in this case is the case

* Site does not contain a sitemap page, but with only one or three pages its not really a realistic thing

* At least one major competitor, alexia, is listed on the site.

* site uses text based links to the rest of the site

* site looks somewhat like its design would go well with a search engine (short and short paragraphs, keywords all on page etc)

3. Do several sites link to this site?
* google lists one site that links to this site, STATBRAIN

* pages are easy to link to with a text link

* Each page links back to the home page

4. Do they publicize their web site URL?
Not applicaple since there is no profit from the page

5. Traffic is one of the best indicators of a good URL and good search engine placement.

6. Technically no local search, but with a small site... im going to give you this one because of the search based site

3. Content is KING

1. Site is well laid out and has some text that sems to be informative and this site is simple and will help a user to use the site :O

2. Content is updated on a regular basis and has a part telling you whats added

3. no bulletin board and what not, but, you dont need one

4. should contain a widget or something for news on the internet, to keep people coming back, i reccomend embeding an external rss feed into your website so that people who come to the site may come back for that reason alone

6. Could contain a game on a different page, or a few flash games linked through, but not needed and will not count against you, once again

4. Getting Past the Firewalls, Virus Checkers and Ad Blockers

5. Review the ENTIRE site

Site does not seem to contain any "hidden" pages, pages not in navigation.

6. Navigation

1. Site has a consistent feel

3. Site is very shallow (not a lot of clicks for what you want

10. A home button is present but is not obvious to all people, a seperate home button should be present
11. Mouseover is not used on links, but links are spaced so not needed

4. site size is ok and has a set ratio (percentages and not pixels)
5. Is updated regularly
6. Is easily readable
7. no dates, is constantly updated

9. no email service for major updates (not needed no points off)
10. Spelling / Grammatical errors are present on the main page and NO broken links
11. They talk to the audeance and not down to them or above them
12. Site has a nicety rating of ~80%

14. does not supply a host of other info, giving the site links point considering (links to other sites)
15. Availiable in only one known language
16. Real content provided
17. Generally resembles other sites (good thing)
18. Loads fast on slow connections (good)

19. site DOES give you some reason to come back. (for me its to see if my site gets indexed)
20. Site obviously has at least a little work put into it
21. site does not contain a seperate space for planned downtimes, or a part for things like (was unavailiable for x time bacause x) supposedly because its not needed

3. brand colors are consistent with the page

1. Website looks like it may have been made by hand (good) as it has no metatag from a generator

* Appropriate keywords are used on each page that has a keyword metatag
* Keyword Metatags include a limited number of prime "key words"
* Proper use of correct keywords, NOT including guessing possible misspellings of them (BAD)
