I am a beginner to web design and need a professional opinion, please critique my music website http://www.audreyphoenix.com.

I am primarily a musician, not a web designer so I would really appreciate opinions! I want to inspire people to subscribe, what do you think of the buttons on the home page? Suggestions on design, etc? Any input would be appreciated!

You know what, I like it.

It's a good attempt for a website newbie, I like the banner at the top it is clean simple and easy to navigate.

I didn't like your button design they look a little amateurish, if you don't mind me saying.

Oh and loved your rendition of the Kooks.

Thank you so much for the review!

I really appreciate your honesty. And I am glad you enjoyed my Kooks cover

I had a feeling the buttons weren't quite right, that is why I asked about them. Any suggestions on how to make them less "amateurish"? Is it the curvy font, the little picture, or the button size or shape? I was also thinking of just putting text links there instead, perhaps that would look better? Any suggestions would be appreciated

No probs chicken. You got talent.

Yeah the curvy font look kinda like comic sans, you might know which one I mean. Those type of fonts are generally a no no in terms of web design. I would go for a nice clean font like Arial or verdana and keep the button clean and simple.

I'm not sure if this was deliberate either, but for the 'more' button you have a mismatch of capitals 'MoRe' - almost as if you were writing back in kindergarten.

But do you know what I'd do? I'd try and steal some ideas of other singer/songwriters' websites.

Natasha bedingfield, Katie Melua, gabriella climi (she uses curvy fonts but it works) etc.

Oh and I want to make a request, Rhianna 'take a bow' then I'll consider subscribing. Don't let me down!

Haha, I will try!

Great suggestions, I already changed the buttons on the front page and the website looks much cleaner and more professional

Let me know what you think!

Oh, and I did use Comic Sans at first, but later I converted to a handwriting font called "Complete in Him"..that capitol "r" is just part of the regular font, I think!

...I think the handwriting fonts are better when not used on buttons...teehee!

If you have any other suggestions they are welcome...I checked out a couple of those music websites...good idea!

I dont know what program you are using for the design of your site, but if there is any way to left-align the left side of the home page (and a few others), it would seem more symmetrical to your audience. If you have a way to create a page within a page (using frames) it would also look more contemporary rather than letting the content fill the whole screen. Although a judgment call, you may want to put the vid on autoplay as well, to attract the viewers attention right away.

Using sites like 123contactform can help you attract attention, stay in contact with your supporters, and present a more professional way to potential perspectives looking to hire as well - over a posted email address. They're great and free.

Hope this helps! Overall you're doing a great job.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! Yes, I definitely need a contact form on my 'Shows' page, I don't know why I didn't think of that myself! Thank you for that suggestion, I updated it with a contact form and an email link.

Yes, I have been considering a redesign to a left alignment....With the program I am using I would take a complete redesign though, so I am proceeding with that development slowly and cautiously

And the autoplay is definitely something to consider, I have been debating about it myself for a while. Problem is when I go to a site and unexpected sounds pop up, I am often more annoyed than interested, and want to navigate away from the page. It is a hard call, I wonder if there is any data out there revealing the most common reaction to this kind of stimulus.

All in all, your suggestions were extremely helpful, thank you so much! I checked out your site as well, beautiful design! It looks like a great resource, good luck in your business. I am not generating income through my site yet, but when I do, I will be looking you up again.

's good

I like buttons where the current page is dimmed and the others intense, the opposite of what it is now, saying 'theres no point clicking here'

dont put the video on autoplay
The big sites
utube googlevideo et al
do not autoplay
because of the negativeresponse
They have the resources to find what irks
so why reinvent the wheel

It is impossible to get return visitors if they leave p-ed off

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say 'I like buttons where the current page is dimmed and the others intense' Do you mean change the background color? Or make pages the buttons link to more interesting so people want to click the button? I would like to understand, I'm sure you have a good point

Yeah, I sort of agree about auto play...I even get annoyed when a myspace page loads and music comes on...but that is just me I probably won't put it on auto play just to save MYSELF the annoyance...teeheee!

Thanks so much for the input! Let me know if you have any other suggestions!

Logical expression takes time and effort
the menu bar on the page at the moment highlights the current page
I like the current page be dimmed and inactive like google
web image video gmail
bar is
the current page is dimmed and inactive, "dont bother clicking here you're already here"
Google is good to borrow(?) effects from, their effects are always low impact on server or browser
