Windows Update Freezes

Hi, I used the recovery partition on my HP 762n PC to restore WinXP to the original state, since I plan on giving this computer to a friend. Then I went to Windows Update and downloaded about 25 updates and restarted my PC. Now when I go to Tools>Windows Update the webpage begins to load and then freezes. Any ideas?
