Would like advice on new site
Hello guys and gals, I've been coming here for a couple of months and thought its time to post a few questions
I started a overclocking site mid December and the site is slowly getting there, but my membership has pretty much come to a stop but, traffic is not bad for a new site
My question is should I have the forums for registered members only? and also the downloads, or should I leave it the way it is where ppl can view but not post
Also would like some advice on promoting my site, I have used google adwords for 2 weeks when i started but it was a little expensive, is there something similar to adwords thats not so expensive
My site URL is in my profile
Thanks in advance for any advice

Is your site show up on on the major search engine?
Try selfpromotion dot com. I have no association/relation to them, but have used them to put one of my sites in to several engines/databases. It also a good in general for some basic search engine optimization.

site looks ok,
I think the front page is a bit too big, but I think it is quite tricky creating a front page that has all the information you want to draw peoples attention too, yet keep it small, I think its almost impossible.
Loads pretty quick, I dont have flash installed, so I have no idea what it is at the top of the page, but then if its adds like some on this site, then I wasn't missing anything anyway.
Your question about continuing with making users register.
Its a tricky one, I would have posted a question to the site, but I could not be bothered signing into my webmail account just to get a link so that I can post a single question. This happens at my site also, I get lots of hits, but people can't be bothered signing up.
If you do not insist on registration, then you open your self to forum spamming, which is ruins the forum, your regular members will stop comming if they have to go through pages of adds. Its a tricky one. I personally try to leave some forums open for public posting, such as general chat and rubbish like that. the more important ones, where I want people to go when they want to find or give help, these I require membership.
How to get more hits, I would love to know my self, unless you have a few quid to spend, you just got to stick with it. I think posting a question like this, on a site like this, is probably a good idea.
Your webstats will probably show you how much traffic came from the url relating to your public profile at daniweb.
One quick question - If I posted my system spec at your site, are you likely to have members that can tell me what the best stable overclock they could get was, and how they got it?
I have visited quite a few web sites looking for OC tips for my main desktop, there seem to be plenty telling me they acheived X, but not so many telling me what they did to acheive X.
Look at http://www.custompc.co.uk its a website for a UK magazine, the forums are full of modders, a post in this forum may be a good move.
