No make File

The installation instructions to install php on a unix os is
/.configure --with options
make
make install

but there is no make file in the directory can i get some help please get some help

i am Just trying to install PHP thats all i have Apache up and running but I want to install PHP with mysql support isnt there a simple rpm out there that i can install with mysql support forgive me i am a eager linux newbie
