difference between tcp and sctp?

whts the difference between tcp and sctp?

its something related to denial attcks(both from client or to any server by making a single requests in loop so that the desired system is overloaded and stops responding can say hack attacks)
but how is it prevented in sctp and what are the added characteristics of sctp.
can anyone knows.... more plz

It looks to me that SCTP sends a initial data structure to allow monitoring of the following TCP like packet transfer, although thats just how I read it.

If you feel lucky google IETF SIGTRAN SCTP for more info.
