I have a VGN 260.The laptop does not start when i press the power on switch. If i keep doing it repeatedly it comes on after number of attempts which is frustrating.
i have replaced the RAM with a new one as suggested by local Sony Service.Still the problem is not solved.
I attepmted keeping the laptop in Standby mode.Again the unit does not go on after some time.
Similar is the case when i tried Hibernate.
Can any one suggest a solution please?

Sounds like a power button issue. There may be some dirt, or crumbs under the button. Remove the button panel, and test it. then, blow out any debris, and then retest.

That most likely is the issue. Do what dogbreath077 said, and if that is not the problem, you may discover what is wrong when you take the panel off.
