Computer suddenly slow! Please help

For a few weeks now my computer has been slow and now I'm starting to get annoyed. If i go into task manager barely any of the CPU is being used and not much of the memory is being used yet the computer is running slower and it happened overnight, could I possibly have a bug?
I've tried msconfig and turned it onto normal startup so it only uses needed programs and this didn't fix anything.
When I boot up my computer it takes a few minutes for it to boot, normally it is quick, so I don't know.

have you tried to scan for any viruses? try to download malware bytes.. and scan your system ..check if will help...

Please Download ATF-Cleaner (Windows XP, 2K, 2003 & Vista ONLY)
• You can put ATF-Cleaner on your Desktop for easy access.
RUN ATF-Cleaner.exe.

-- Click on ATF-Cleaner to run it
-- Where it says Select Files To Delete, Check the Select All Option
-- Click Empty Selected > OK




Download Ccleaner, Install it, Open it...
Under the 'Cleaner' Section select all in the 'Windows' And 'Applications' Tab, Then click on 'Analyze' And then 'Run Cleaner'...
Do The Same In The 'Registry' Tab, i.e. 'Scan For Issues' and 'Fix Selected Issues', It will ask you to make a backup, DO IT...Then Click on 'Fix All'...Now Reboot The Pc..


Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* Make sure all applications including browsers are closed during the scan and you are preferably not in safe mode
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad, Save the Logfile.
* Immediately Reboot he computer

*Now download TrendMicro HijackThis
*Install it, Run it and click on 'Run a scan and save a logfile'
*After the scan you will get a notepad window with the scan results, Save it.
* Post both the MBAM and HJT logs back here.

Hi,
Who knows maybe it could be overheating problems-check your board. Over here dust and heat are number one culprit.

Could be MANY things hardware or software.
Faulty RAM module, Faulty HDD, Virus, Registry error etc etc.

1.Goto the following link and run it once:
www.ccleaner.com/download
2. Do disk defragmentation and Error checking.
3. Goto Add/Remove programs and uninstall programs that are not used.
4. Type "msconfig" in the Run command.
Goto startup tab and uncheck the unwanted softwares from the Startup list.

Thanks for your help, I'm currently trying all your steps now, I normally run CCleaner every now and then and ive checked the whole computer with malwarebytes malware cleaner and ive tried using msconfig and ive shut down all unwanted processes but the computer is still slow. I will also check my mobo for problems, are there any programs that might be able to see if there are ram problems and mobo problems? Just incase here is my setup. nVidia 9600GT 512mb
J & W mobo (cant remember exactly and it has been a bit dodgy)
Corsair 2x 1GB 800 sticks
Seagate 320GB 7200 HDD
Intel E8400 3ghz Core 2 Duo

The computer wouldn't have much dust in it because it isnt that old and ive checked the heat of my cpu hd and gpu and its all fine.

avg 8 has become a hog of a antivrus progrm ,uninstall it and install Avast ,maybe .http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
,did you install and scan with malwarebytes if not do so and post the log here .i would not install tune up utility if i were you .
