Good news!

I am able to reset my default home page and I haven't seen any popups for a while. My problem may be solved! I'm going to do a virus scan using Trend Micro. I'll keep you posted!

Well it went away for about 30 minutes but now it's back.

Good news. I am no longer infected. At least I don't think I am at this point. I may have to repair Internet Explorer because I am having trouble running Trend Micro and Panda, the online virus scans. I am also having trouble with Hotmail. I get a script error everytime I try to delete a message.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Download CWShredder 2 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button.

Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path of each of the below files in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter each file (see the files below).

Reboot afterwards if the files are successfully deleted.

Click "Yes" to reboot only after the last file you enter.

I thought that I had this thing beat. It went away for about twenty-four hours. I was offline most of that time. It seems to have come back now. For teh time being, I can reset my website default page to "blank." However, the "Error #317 Microsoft Windows Security Warning just popped up again so I think it's back.

Grab C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll by the throat in safe mode and rename the file.
Reboot and delete the renamed file.
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler
and delete the entry "Sysctl Desktop Handler"

Reboot when done and post another log please.

Thanks for being there, Crunchie. I wasn't able to find HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler in Hijackthis. Is there another place I should look?

Grabbing it by the throat seems to have worked. I've been virus-free most of the day. I just did a virus scan and only turned up one malware.

I wasn't able to find HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler in Hijackthis. Is there another place I should look?
