I think that the presence of the "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" are causing my AIM to crash. I haven't noticed it causing problems anywhere else. Any ideas?

Here is the HiJack Log:

Go
Here
and Get Trojan-Hunter Fully working trial! and run a full scan
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
To remove trojans there is a tool which needs to be downloaded and run.

1. Please download Stinger and save it to your desktop

2. Double-click on the stinger.exe file and open the tool

3. Choose your entire hard drive to scan.

4. Choose Scan Now

5. Stinger will fix anything that it finds

6. Click the File menu and select Save report to file

7. Post the log file results here in this thread.

STINGER

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files
How to start computer in safe mode

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Do a virus scan Please do an online scan, 2 would be better,

Micro World http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds.

CWShredder available from these places :-

http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/cwshredder.zip
Or this as a full download without any unzipping required
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from :-
HERE
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Then please do this since it’s better to use automated tools to get rid of the bad stuff use these 2 programs first before doing the final cleaning with HJT

First use Spybot S&D. (Version 1.3)
Spybot
Unzip, and update. Install the updates and run. Delete all that it marks in red.
Reboot

Then it’s time for Ad-Aware
Ad-Aware
Install and update by using the globe icon. Restart your computer and run Ad-Aware.
Press scan now and select drives and/or partitions to be scanned. When done select all and click next. Remove all checked items and then reboot your computer.

Please go to this page and read the instructions for how to configure Spybot S&D & Ad-Aware
How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
If needed !!!!!!
Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log. You need an updated version of Hijackthis which you can get from HERE

Then post a HJT log as a reply to this topic.

CaperJack,

Thanks for the reply, but no luck. A lot of junk was removed with the directions you gave but the AIM termination persists. Here are the updated HJT and Stinger logs:

Also, the online scanning resources you suggested weren't available. The first had a fee attached and the second would only run with IE (which I stopped using due to problems).

Hi jmkthetruth. Got a few nasties there so we probably will not get them fixed up in one hit.

===============

Run the PurityScan uninstaller.

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

===============

Download CWShredder 2 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button.

===============

Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then:

1. Click "Update".
2. Click "Check For Update"

(If no new version is available, skip to step #4.)

3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed.
4. Click "Start".

(Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.)

5. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open.

(Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.)

6. Click "Ok", to scan once more.
7. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open.
8. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass.

9. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log.
10. Click "Exit".
11. Click "Exit".

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

TIBS

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

You'll need to download uninst.exe to remove the 'peper' infection, then:

1. run uninst.exe ... (first pass).
2. reboot your computer.
3. run uninst.exe ... (final pass).

Note: You must have an active internet connection, each time this program is run, for it to properly work.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\appcv32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netzv.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
===============

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u sdkdy.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\appcv32.exe

C:\WINDOWS\sdkdy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcc.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\kolodzi_jaso\Application Data\srai.exe

Search for...

aolmsngr.exe
mriwseui.exe

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

Download, install and keep updated, Spywareblaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com to help keep your system clean.
Once installed check for updates. If there are any, they will be automatically installed. Once done you then need to enable all protection and close the program.
Make sure that you update it on a regular basis.

===============

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src (or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

===============

Post back a new log after rebooting and let me know how everything goes.

Crunchie, thanks for the help, here is the update:

I went through all the steps except the TrendMicro scan. The site seems to only be compatible with IE and I use FireFox because IE has given me so much trouble in the past. I tried with IE and it gave me an error alert and application termination message. Other than that I think I hit everything else in your steps.
Here are the logs:

Try IEFix from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4467.html

Then try the Trend scan again

Download CWShredder from here:

http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract..._download.html

Unzip to your desktop, run it, and then:

1. Click "Check For Update"
(If an update isn't available, skip to step 4)

2. Click "Click here to Download the upate"

3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save"

4. Click "Fix"

If it asks you to verify any files to be deleted, either do a Google search for it/them or ask us here before deleting.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove (if found):

Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker (or something similar)

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DCBA9611-B4B0-16C9-9872-C35C216F9B05} - C:\WINDOWS\netow32.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rF4U3mh] mriwseui.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tibs5] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tibs5.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msfc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\msfc.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)
If you didn't put these in your 'Trusted Zone' have HJT fix them as well:
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com (HKLM)
O16 - DPF: {22A88341-AFCB-45F0-A856-C2BAE74F878E} (InstallX Class) - http://www.20x2p.com/c0dc32c7/enter.cab
O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe
O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.0_01) -
O16 - DPF: {9600F64D-755F-11D4-A47F-0001023E6D5A} (Shutterfly Picture Upload Plugin) - http://web1.shutterfly.com/downloads/Uploader.cab
O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0000-0001-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Runtime Environment 1.4.0_01) -
O23 - Service: Network Security Service (NSS) ( 6QÔõ'ª´Æ8) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\netzv.exe

Be sure all windows, other than HJT, are closed before hitting the Fix button

Go to the following folders and remove the highlighted folder or file (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\netow32.dll
C:\Program Files\WildTangent
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tibs5.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msfc.exe

Do a search for mriwseui.exe and delete any instances found

For every User listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (not the folders themselves):

Local Settings\Temp
Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Temp folder (if you have one).

Do a search for *.tmp and delete all entries found.

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot, close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.
