Strange GFX problem related to lack of ram?

  #1
Dec 4th, 2003
Hi there,

Ok - I'm running a few audio apps... some of them are quite demanding... one particular processor intensive app sucks the system resources down about 60% (Alt + Clicking on My Computer) & the display of the app goes all weird... fonts are in bold, icons don't appear.

Question is: Is this a RAM issue? Do I need more ram?

Thanks for any help

Spec:
Win98SE (i know i should update but 98 is stable for audio)
1.4G0Hz AMD Athlon
40GB HD
Abit KG7 mobo
256MB DDR
Old Voodoo 5 gfx

More RAM never hurts anything, but 98 has issues with anything above 512MB. If you add another 256MB stick, you'll be fine.

Are you serving music, editing?

You should upgrade, regardless. Unless a particular piece of hardware is preventing you from doing so. What's your soundcard make? If it's onboard, it'll work just fine with XP.
