Am working on this now. Will not be long
.
. Hi lizzief.
===============
Download, unzip to your desktop CWShredder and run it, then:
1. Click "Check For Update"
(If an update isn't available, skip to step #4.)
2. Click "Click here to Download the upate".
3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save".
4. Click "Fix ->"
===============
Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:
regsvr32 /u SMAIL11.DLL
regsvr32 /u DOMAIN11.DLL
regsvr32 /u STYPE10.DLL
It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.
===============
Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.
Also move the "Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.
===============
Run HiJackThis then:
1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"
-
Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSMON45.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVSHOST.EXE
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
===============
Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.hotoffers.info/230/
O2 - BHO: CEmail Object - {72557F9F-13AE-44C9-B3D7-5091B599027C} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SMAIL11.DLL
O2 - BHO: CDomain Object - {43FA5935-E36E-4937-8127-A90191B2EC68} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DOMAIN11.DLL

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
===============
Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:
files...
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSMON45.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SVSHOST.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SMAIL11.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DOMAIN11.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\STYPE10.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System\systr.dll
-
Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".
===============
Post back a new log after rebooting and let me know how everything goes.

I am not 100% sure with ME, but in W2K (which I am running) you go to Start\Programs\Accessories and you will find it there.
You can also try typing cmd.exe in the run window.

Crunchie - some joy. However i still have the wretched hot offers on my system. When i typed the stuff in the ms-dos prompt it said bad command or file name. Would this have caused problems.
I went through all of the other steps and rebooted and ran hijackthis again. Here is the log i got. Thanks again for your help.

Can you do the following as there may be something there that hijackthis cannot see.
Go here and download FindIt.zip to your Desktop, unzip it and open the FindIt folder and doubleclick on find.bat. Let it run (please be patient, it will take a few minutes) and when it has finished gathering info, it will generate a file called Output.txt. Please copy it and paste it back in this thread.
