Browser cannot access internet, but other programs can

Hi,

I'm having a strange issue: I just installed Windows XP. I also installed WinXP SP2. When I use a browers (IE or Firefox) to browse the internet, everything works fine for a while. After a while, the browsers will not access the internet anymore. I check my network usage, and there are not packets being sent or received. However, all other programs (AIM, Windows Media Player, iTunes, ping, etc...) have no problems getting to the the internet, its just the browsers. It works fine again after a reboot (but stops working after a while again). I can't seem to find any patterns on when or why the browsers would stop working all of a sudden. I've tried both going through a wireless connection and a standard ethernet connection, same thing. This happened as soon as I installed a new copy of XP, so there shouldn't be any spy ware yet, but I ran Adware just in case and it didn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

do you have your networking icon showing down by the clock ,if not go to control panel and networking and check the status of you connection ,at the time this happens .
There is a issue with some network setups and sp2 .you might get a message that you connection is limited or what ever and you may have problems axcessing the internet !!

Hmmm, I'll definitely check next time it happens. How can I go about fixing this if this is the case?

Thanks

Well, it happened again last night, and I check the status of the network connection, and everything was ok. I was still able to access the internet through other programs just not through a browser. It seems like the browser is sending out the http request, but I don't know if my firewall was blocking it, or it wasn't getting a reply back. I turned off my firewall (zonealarm) and the samething still happens. Any ideas?

DLee here. had the same problem and after some work think got it solved. If you have zone alarm it may come up with a program request for a buddy.exe, do not allow it to load.

go to start and click search and put in the search area buddy.exe and start your search. Delete the program and your browser should work ok after that. May have to delete it more then once just do the same thing each time. This program is hidden and hard to find any other way and it is located in your c:/ drive unknown to us without knowing what to search for. Thy it out and let me know it this fixes your problem as it seems to have mine.

DLee
