I want to install Linux on my personal computer, can any body guide me

If you want to install Linux in your PC then unpartition some space for that then boot it using Linux installation CD and install but if your Linux didn't found your hard disk then use this command at the time of installation.
linux pci=nommconf all-generic-ide

You will also want to choose a linux distribution. If it is your first time using linux i would recommend Ubuntu.
I don't mind helping but please mark your thread as solved once the problem is sorted. If you figure it out tell us how you did it, don't just abandon your thread!

Hi

insert the first CD and restart the system

1) press enter to start installation in GUI mode

or

type linux test to start installtion in text mode.

Here liux install in two ways .one is gui mode and another one text mode. if you want select gui mode just press enter

if you want install in text mode just type at boot prompt
boot: linux text

step :2
to do a media check select ok and press enter
to skip it select skip and press enter

Next

select Language

select English

Next
select Key board

US English

NEXT

for full installation provide installation key (if u have a key number of of software)
or SKIP the key no.

Next

Create the required partition on the screen

select custiom layout and delete all partions if any

create 6 partions below:
/boot = 100MB
/ - 2000 MB
/usr = 4000MB
/var = 1000 mb
/home = 1000 mb
swap = 2 x ram (2000)(if it is 1 gb ram)

to check the ram size
# free

selct Network Devices to go for edit

select DHCO or manually provide ip address
for eg: 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0
hostname: station1.zoom.com
gateway : 192.168.0.254
DNS : 192.168.0.1


NEXT
select time zone
Asia/calcutta

NEXT

enter the password for root user (give any root password)

NEXT

select software to be installed

Select Gnome environment
Editors
internet
like whatever u want to install softwares

Click next to begin installation Next

after the completion of installation reboot
after reboot you will get welcome screen
select the licence agreement
check mark yes

Forward

disable firewall

forward
disable the selinux

forward

uncheck kdump

forward

set date & time

Forward

setup software updates

Forward
finish updates setup

forward

create users

Click on continue to avoid creating normal users

FORWARD
