Did you download the Vista driver? Should work.

Otherwise basic scanner functions should work with standard Twain drivers. Does the system recognise the presence of your scanner?

Practically a Posting Shark
Had enough trouble getting LIDE50 to work (finally sorted using a work-around with LIDE70 drivers), so hate to imagine the issues getting LIDE20 to work. I do know the Vista drivers for LIDE50 didn't work properly on Win7.
As a point, may be worth updating the scanner, even to a newer 2nd hand model (LIDE100 - 200) - can pick up on eBay rather cheaply and will see you through a few more yrs
