Thanks nizzy. Sorry about that, I'd lost all my links and files in my other computer. Thanks for posting the proper link to the bootvis file. I'll try to be more specific in the future. For many people there are so many useless prefetch items taking up space and it never gets optimised. Or they don't have it enabled. If they have XP.
to check to see if your prefetch is set right, to navigate to your registry type 'regedit" in the run command line, from "start" then browse to;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
The default value for this should be set at 3. If it is set to 1 or 2, change it to 3. This will enable the prefetcher to prefetch both applications and boot processes. Setting it to a number 1 means only boot processes will be prefetched and setting it to 2 means only applications will prefetch. Most people have both applications and boot processes loading at startup. If 'enableprefetch' is set to 0, then booting up will take several minutes as nothing is prefetched then.
As far as I know it is okay to delete prefetch files, especially for old programs.
You may also want to make sure your windows defragmenter is set to defrag the boot files. To check type 'regedit' in the windows "start" run command line and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction.
In right hand panel look for Enable. Right click on it and set it 'Y' for enable.
I always go through this once in a while,
1. delete all the old stuff in C://Windows/Prefetch
2. reboot
3. defrag the machine using windows defrag
4. bootvis
5. run idle tasks command line
6. repeat steps 2 through 5
There may be a program loading, like Norton, that takes a long tome to boot that's causing this trouble.

- Skye Hi all,
This is a old post that I've decided to revive cause the computer that had this problem has not being used since then but now that its been used
I want to resolve this. The thing is ,when you press the power button, nothing happens and even the fans wount start and staying for about 20 mins and keep pressing the power button ,it will start. After being up for about 2 hrs and shutdown and start it will start normally otherwise the problem comes in the initial start in the morning when you start .

maybe its just simply too cold. try leaving it in a warm room or leave it on all the time. it wont hurt it.

it shouldn't make much of a difference whether or not your floppy drive is hooked up or not. even if its a barebones system it should still boot.
