Keep in mind that if you plan on marketing via SEO, Flash is evil!

Horrible. Simply horrible. Even assuming you sell high tech products and thus have sophisticated, computer savvy users, flash only still equates to poor performance and low SEO results. With no text to read spiders are gone which means no traffic. Having to navigate through an image isn't much good for users either. I'm not sure if they simply turned off features but from what I can see the functionality is very basic (view items, view categories, search, add to cart). I also don't imagine that you could link directly to a product but perhaps that's an option.

Flash is useful for display promotional messages and basically flashing your name, a slogan or a few lines of text. Flash is not intended to hold content and as illustrated by this system, while it may look fun, ti is simply not upto par with a html site that uses flash to accent it. The site used to sell the shopping cart is html based, doesn't that say enough?

pure ignorance. flash can handle content just fine, but can you handle flash? competent flash developers utilize actionscript and efficient design methods to make their applications run smoothly. not all effects and designs can run smoothly on dial-up or slow machines, but there are plenty of effective sites that do just that. but as far as SEO goes, you just have to know what you're doing. flash exports its own html file to embed the flash movie, and prints all text used in the movie in a commented area in the head tag for the spiders to read. by using flash's anchor text feature you can have the browser and spiders track what text goes in what flash page. there is no excuse for leaving flash out of the forefront of web design. we all just need to stay educated as these technologies advance and overcome problems that some of us seem to take for granted.

My god are you retarded - look at what flash can do - try browsing the web - incase you dont know where to look try http://flashforwardconference.com/de...7,149,829,1006
for starters then http://www.tufat.com and once you have viewed a few of the great flash applications there go to http://search.yahoo.com/search?va=fi...%20connecticut
and then check the top ranking page and tell me again that search engines cant crawl flash sites and then just when you think what about the big boys check google http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...t+photographer
and have a little look at the top 2 sites - you see its like most things in life if you dont know what your doing you try to blame the tools when in the right hands they have already long passed html pages - everyday you see it more and more.

My opinion on flash site:

1. To run a Flash site, a computer need to first install macromedia flash viewer. But since most computers have flash viewer installed and this may not a big problem.
2. Google is working to crawl flash site. It may not happen in the next few months, but I'm sure someday this will not be an issue. I suppose Macromedia is working toward this (search engine friendly) as well.

It would be a better idea to have both flash and html version on a website and let the user to choose (flash site will be default for visitors and html site can be program to serve crawler/robots). This will satisfy both visitors and search engine.

Flash can offer so many great ways to build a web site, but there aren't as many sources as other languages. I suspect the future will be good for Flash though. You can do so much with it, but it is a little more complicated than html. Add php as a backend and you can do whatever you want with Flash.
I found a decent Flash Shopping Cart for PayPal that requires no database at: http://useinfotech.com
I contacted them and they said they would make it work with my system for a small fee. This is just one of a few Flash Shopping Carts I found.
