phpBB 2.2 -- Demo Site
![]() |
Alright, I know everybody has been long waiting phpBB 2.2 and along that wait many people have wanted to explore the opening of it. Well, like the very few people that have, I got a copy of the phpBB 2.2 software and will be installing it as soon as the SQL Server is back up again.
You will have to register to test the board out and most of the things are functionable. It has everything to expect in the 2.2 release of phpBB, including the User Control Panel, a new cache system, theme template and of course it is in the new phpBB 2.2 template style (no long .tpl file, now resides in .html files for easier changing.)
Some other things new to the phpBB system are the attachment add-ons now and the premier features for the profile things.
It was reported by phpBB that "NONE of the new add-ons are previous phpBB 2.x mods" and that they are "fully written coding by the phpBB staff." From the way it looks right now, it may take some time for phpBB experts to comprehend with all the new files (*style folder replaces templates) and such so dont expect anything new for phpBB 2.2 after its released to the public, even in BETA and RC stages.
The new phpBB even includes CVS inside of this release, which should make things more better to deal with.
------+ Files Breakdown ++---------------------------------
Look through the PHP forum of DaniWeb, I used the CVS information and built out the file breakdown of what they have so far of the latest phpBB 2.2 Release.
I'll keep you posted more about phpBB 2.2 and so on whenever I can, but they think that phpBB 2.2 will officially be released by the end of the 2004 year, just hope so. Anyway, http://www.da-hot-spot.com/phpbb/index.php will take you to the forum demo, and yes it is functionable.
What will happen with phpBB 2.2 you ask, who knows, keep watching for the release though......
