Human stupidity is what makes the Market Share of IE so Big.

Yesterday, I was reading this article on Dailybreeze.com:
http://www.dailybreeze.com/business/articles/3501956.html and I was feeling very angry. The article says that: “The software company, which has seen IE slowly losing market share to Firefox,” Alright, so IE was loosing its market of internet users using IE as Browser. I’ve heard somewhere that the updates made to IE 7 are so important that that Microsoft wants to use it as a critical update and update millions of machines with it using Automatic update. If Microsoft is urging us so much to upgrade to its IE7, then it clearly means that IE 6 is totally flawed. Still, IE holds almost 80% of the market. Why is this?

Well I have the answer to this question. Firstly, it is because, when you install Windows, IE is the Default Browser. However, Geeks like me know how to change this. That is why Opera 9 is my Default browser on my machine, but what about the millions of other computer users who are using IE and who form part of the 80% of Microsoft Market share. Well, it is simple; they are too stupid to change. Let me tell you story.

Am a Software Developer, my neighbor was having problems with his computer. He was running Windows XP SP2 with IE 6 as Default Browser. When I did a diagnosis of his system, I concluded that most of his problems were coming from Spywares. I removed them manually (Am good at this), gave him a stable system and bid him goodbye. Not even 1 week later, he called me again. Again he was having the same problem, with Spywares, but now it was more difficult to remove. I thought that I had enough of this. Let’s attack the problem at the heart itself. I told him to change of Browser and use Opera 9 instead.

I reasoned with him, telling him that 90% of internet users use IE, thus it was obvious that hackers will target only those who are using IE. I also told him that less of 1% of internet Users use Opera, so it is less targeted. He consented and I installed Opera. Now it’s going to be two months since he has not called me. I wonder if everything is alright.

About 90% of people who use IE are not just stupid, but are also afraid. They are afraid that the other broswer will not meet theit needs, that it will not be the same, that the change would be too complicated. They are also stupid because firstly, they are not aware that most of their daily computer problems are coming from IE. They are also not aware that Microsft has said that it will change it browser version only with each new Windows release, which takes place every 4 years. This long span of time leaves hackers enough time to find obscure ways to hack IE. Browsers like Firefox and Opera on the other hand have a new release every 4 to 6 months, leaving hackers very few time. Next time I see a computer infected with Spyware, I tell them to change to Opera first, then come to see me.
